Harold A Robertson Scholarship in Parkinson Research

Value: $5,000 per year

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be enrolled in a graduate studies program
  • You must demonstrate strong academic achievement
  • Your project will be in the research area focusing on Parkinson’s Disease with an emphasis if possible at a basic sciences level or broader symptom level to address everyday living challenges and concerns such as caregiving, home design, technology, accommodations, or those tracing and predicting Parkinson’s families. 

 

Ken Saunders Bursary for Parkinson's Research

Deadlines: October 31 at 4 p.m. ADT
Value: $2,000 per year
Scholarship type: Entrance or In-program

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be enrolled in a graduate studies program.
  • You must demonstrate financial need.
  • Your project will be in the field of learning more about triggers and/or cellular changes that influence the development of Parkinson's.


Killam Predoctoral Scholarship Level 1 (Master's)

Deadline: For course-based students - February 15 at 4:00 p.m AST
Value: Up to $42,000 per year for up to two years, plus $2,500 toward international tuition fees and relocation allowance, if applicable
Scholarship type: Entrance
Degree level: Thesis-based master's

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Awards are open to both Canadian and international students
  • As applicants must be eligible to receive scholarship support for at least two years, only master’s students who have yet to begin their program may apply
  • You must also apply for funding from relevant provincial, national and/or international agencies, such as NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, NSHRF, etc.

 

Linda Marie Gillingwater Rainsberry Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility criteria   

  • Preference will be given to single mothers whose area of study is in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and whose research incorporates a social justice analysis. Preference will also be given to a student whose research is in women's studies.
  • Second preference given to single mothers enrolled in graduate studies in any discipline at Dalhousie University.

 

Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship - Master's

Value: $10,000 per year for up to two years
Scholarship type: Entrance

Eligibility criteria

  • You must not be currently enrolled in a thesis-based master’s program (i.e. you have yet to begin your program).
  • Your intended research aligns with one or more of the research priorities as identified by the province of Nova Scotia. See above for guidelines of priority research areas. 

 

The Vitamin Scholarship - Master's

Deadline: For course-based students - February 15 at 4:00 p.m AST
Value: $19,000 per year for one year
Scholarship type: Entrance or in-program
Degree level: Thesis-based master's

Eligibility criteria

  • Canadian and international students are eligible to apply.
  • You must be enrolled in a thesis-based program with research related to vitamins and/or vitamin-related products.
  • You must have spent less than eight months in your program as of May 1 of the current academic year.

 

Scotia Scholars Award from Research Nova Scotia

Deadline: Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ADT
Value: $12,500 per year for up to two years (master's) and $18,750 per year for up to two years (doctoral)
Scholarship type: In-program or entrance
Degree level: Thesis-based master's or doctoral

Eligibility criteria

  • To be eligible for this award, you must:
    • At the time of application, have applied to, be accepted in, or be enrolled in a full-time thesis-based master's or doctoral degree program.
    • Have identified and made contact with an eligible research supervisor at Dalhousie.
    • Be engaged with research activities relevant to Research Nova Scotia's Health Missions.
    • Be in good standing for enrollment in the upcoming school year.
    • If successful, maintain all applicable eligibility criteria for the full duration of the award. Awards are not transferable.
    • Achievement of first-class average is recommended, as determined by the host institution, in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent).

 

Dr. Paul Anthony & Thelma Johnstone Bursary

FGS Emergency Bursary

Eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a registered graduate student in the second year or later of a full-time program.
  • You must be experiencing a temporary financial emergency, such as unforeseen medical expenses, and demonstrate financial need. 
  • You must have applied for government student loans and/or a bank line of credit, where available.
  • If eligible, a maximum of one FGS emergency bursary will be granted to you per 12-month period. 

 

John and Lena Graham Commonwealth Bursary

Mitacs Globalink Research Award

  • Eligibility criteria
    • You must be registered as a full-time graduate student or postdoctoral fellow at an eligible Canadian institution or eligible international institution and remain as such throughout your Globalink Research Award.
    • As a postdoctoral fellow, you may apply if your date of graduation from a PhD program is no more than five years prior to the proposed start date of the research project and you have postdoctoral status at an eligible institution. 
    • You cannot undertake a research project at an institution where you have previously completed a degree or in a country where you hold citizenship.

Phi Kappa Pi Joe Ghiz Memorial Award

  • Eligibility criteria
    • You must be a registered graduate student at Dalhousie University.
    • Must apply for travel grant at least one month before the date of the conference at which you will be presenting a paper or poster. 
    • You are eligible to apply for one travel grant during the course of your program.
    • If you are planning to take part in an International Learning Experience, please first consult with faculty advisors and the International Centre prior to finalizing any international travel plans. Please visit the International Centre's website and review the information on International Learning Experiences. You will be required to provide proof of completion of all the required components (pre-departure session, registration with international SOS and emergency information form).
