CAEL Eligibility

In place of the IELTS or TOEFL exams, the CAEL, or Canadian Academic English Language Test can also be taken to take admission to Canadian Universities and Colleges. It evaluates a candidate's proficiency with the language at the post-secondary level and assesses their English-language Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing abilities. Certain Canadian institutions require CAEL for entrance if you intend to continue your education from there. Given below is the CAEL eligibility criteria that candidates need to fulfil- British English in order to appear for it.

A student who wants to appear for the CAEL test must adhere to certain eligibility requirements. The eligibility for taking the CAEL test is as follows:

• Once you pass the CAEL test, 10+2 secondary education is thought to be required for applying to colleges for those applying for undergraduate programs.
• Applicants must possess both a current passport and a form of identification.
• Applicants may take the exam several times, however registration for the subsequent exam can only be approved once the results of the prior exam are made public.

Who accepts CAEL as a test?

Professional associations, academic institutions, and employers, all accept the CAEL test results as official document of English language ability. Generally, CAEL test format, test material, scoring criteria, and rating scale are same whether the test is completed in a test centre or online. Although CAEL scores are delivered via delivery mode to the schools you choose, it is advised that you make sure the schools or institutes accept CAEL online scores.

CAEL Test Day Requirements

Depending upon the type of CAEL Test you take – CAEL Online or CAEL At a Test Centre – the test day requirements for each type are as follows:

CAEL Online

You can take the CAEL online anywhere in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, the Republic of South Korea, Singapore, China, Vietnam, India, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Indonesia.

CAEL Online System Requirements
 

A desktop computer or laptop computer (you cannot use a phone, tablet, or chromebook)

1. Internet speed of at least 2Mb/s download speed, 1Mb/s upload speed.
2. Chrome web browser (current version).
3. A webcam, microphone, and speakers
4. Minimum screen resolution to be 1024x768
5. Mac OS 10.13 / Windows 8.1 or higher
6. It may not be possible to take the test on a corporate laptop unless you ask your company's IT to configure it for you. Please refer to ProProctor's instructions for corporate computers on www.cael.ca.
7. You cannot launch the ProProctor application using virtual machines or remote desktop connections

CAEL online Environment Requirements
 

• Testing location must be indoors (walled), well-lit, with a closed door, and free from background noise and disruptions.
• No third party may be present in the room or enter the room for the duration of the exam. If this occurs, your exam will be terminated and/or your results invalidated.
• Your workstation and surrounding area must be free of pens, and paper. Two tissues are permitted at your workstation, but they must be inspected by proctor prior to the starting of test.
• You can only take notes with the ProProctor Scratchpad on your test screen(paper is not allowed for note-taking).Only water in a transparent container is allowed at your desk.
• Food is not allowed.
   

CAEL online ID Requirements
 

• You need to have a valid and non-expired government-issued photo identity document (ID) that will be presented on test day.

• You have to take a photo of yourself through the CAEL registration system.
• There are security checks as well for CAEL online test.

CAEL at a Test Centre

You can take the CAEL test at one of the 40+ test centres for CAEL in Canada and other international locations.

Do's & don'ts at the CAEL test centre
 

Certain testing facilities may ask the test-takers to wear masks. If masking is necessary, you must put one on when you get to the test centre and keep it on for the entire time you take the exam, including the speaking section. Other than that, we advise you to bring a cloth face mask or a disposable mask, whichever you have.

• Take along valid photo identification, that is, your passport on the test day.
• Take test confirmation email along.
   

The following details will be included in the test confirmation email:
 

• Your test registration number.
• Your name, but ensure that the name on the test confirmation email matches the name on your identification.
• Identification documentation in order to take the test.
