Know about IELTS
International students who want to study or work in a country where English is the primary means of communication, must take IELTS. Importance of IELTS exam
The IELTS exam is necessary for those who want to study in English-speaking universities. Some countries require candidates submit their scores while others have different requirements but either way make sure you check what's required before submitting anything else (like all other documents).
Types of IELTS Exams
The IELTS Academic and General Training exams are two different versions of the same test. The Speaking and the Listening portion is identical, but depending on which version you take will change what's read or to be written, that is for Writing and Reading module.
- Academic IELTS Test: Those who apply for higher education or professional registration abroad take the IELTS Academic exam.
- General IELTS Exam: Individuals who want to immigrate to major English-speaking nations like Canada, Australia, and the UK take the IELTS General Test.
Additionally, people who wish to participate in secondary education or training programs or who want to get work experience in a nation where English is the primary language of communication take this test.
Online registration
- First, log in to www.ieltsidpindia.com and select the option ‘Register for IELTS’.
- Select your preferred test: CBT IELTS/ PBT (IELTS, IELTS for UKVI, or Life Skills).
- Select your test type/module, which is Academic or General Training for IELTS.
- Choose the test date and test city, which will be shown as per availability.
- You must also compulsorily upload a clear scanned copy of your Passport.
- Complete the online application and pay the test fee via credit card (Master or Visa).
- After successful registration, you will get a notification regarding your booked slot and other important details about, the exam.

IELTS Cancellation fee
- You will get a refund less a 25% administrative fee if you cancel your IELTS application more than five weeks before the test date.
- You won’t get a refund if you cancel your IELTS exam fewer than five weeks before the test date.
- In the event that you do not take the test, there will be no return given. This is likewise regarded as a cancellation.
- After deducting the local administrative fee, those who can present a medical certificate within five days after the test date are eligible for a reimbursement.
Date & frequency
IELTS test dates are offered up to 4 times in a month making a total of 48 fixed dates in one calendar year. The availability of IELTS dates in India may differ for Academic and General IELTS.
Centre & admit card
The IELTS Exam is offered across more than 50 locations across India. There is no admit card provided for IELTS examination.
Result
IELTS Exam results are released 12 calendar days after the test for the paper based exam and 5-7 calendar days for the computer based test. The Candidate will receive only ONE original Test Report form (TRF).
Score reporting
A candidate may request up to 5 additional TRFs to be sent to the receiving institutions (universities, professional bodies, etc.) within 1 month of taking the IELTS test. TRFs sent by courier will be sent via DHL and students will be charged accordingly. If the receiving institution accepts electronic submission of scores then that can be arranged through the IDP IELTS office free of charge.
Score Validity
IELTS score stays valid for 2 years

Some general tips
It is always preferable to be well-prepared before taking your IELTS exam. The following is a list of resources that can assist you in passing the IELTS India exam
- Mock Tests: Before you attempt your IELTS exam, you should always attempt some practice tests that will give you an idea of your strengths and weaknesses. It will also give you an understanding of how the test is and what to expect on the test date.
- Know the Test Format: Be aware of the test format. You need to familiarize yourself with the pattern of the IELTS exam as well as the various tasks that come under four main sections.
- Be Aware of the Time: Each section has a time limit and it is important to adhere to the time limit. Keep on practicing the mock test till you complete the various sections under the allotted time.
- Improve your English: It is important to simultaneously improve your English while you are preparing for your IELTS Exam. Hence while your score may improve, you may forget to practice your English properly. Hence you must speak, read and listen to some practice English-speaking materials such as podcasts, videos, and books.
- Using Proper English Terms: Though it is tempting to use slang words while attempting the test, it is important to remember that you should only use formal, appropriate, assertive English terms and grammar.
